Welcome to Penny's Wiki.

This is a new adventure for me! I watch my colleagues and friends putting up super blogs, complex web pages, and amazing wikis. I was feeling left behind! So, thanks to Barry Bakin [ESL instructor in LA Unified School District] he has "shown me the way" to create and edit my own wiki!

Some interesting places I've visited lately:

Last summer (2006) I was fortunate enough to visit Southeast Alaska [my home state] and spend time traveling around just being a sightseer. I took a trip on a nice boat down to a place called "Ford's Terror" -- and interesting little "inlet" known for battering unsuspecting boats to bits if they try to access this inlet during high or low tide. Apparently, in the early 1930's a young Navy man used a row boat to explore this fjord. He was surrounded by hugh icebergs calving from the nearby glacier. As he attempted to row out of the fjord, it was right at high tide and the entry way (a mere 100' wide!) was a raging class 5 rapid! Although the young man made it out alive, it was named Ford's Terror after his harrowing experience!

I took tons of pictures and I should now probably go out and post them to flickr or some other photo sharing space. I bet someone out there has some good suggestions!
